Love using the Ancestry DNA App and the membership has been useful as well for my family tree. My suggestion is about including our trace percentages in the updates. I’m hoping Ancestry will consider showing the <1% on our ethnicity reports in the updates in the near future. The reason I say this is because I’ve also tested with 23andMe along with family and we all show regions and ethnicities that are trace percentages that are consistent and we know which side of the family it’s coming from and is fact checked and showing in the family tree as well. Ancestry however doesn’t include on our official reports, but I’ve seen the hacked version of my ancestry results showing my trace amounts and it lines up with the 23andMe. Please consider going back to showing the percentages that are less than 1%. It really helps in family research and I believe we should see all of our percentages, not just the ones you want to show. Let it be up to us, the customer to fact check whether it’s a for sure thing. I think it’s important for us to see each and every percentage!

    Feature RequestsHate itInaccurateSpending

Ancestry’s ethnicity estimates are great, but, as a service they need to step it up and stop expecting people to pay for every little bit of information they can provide. The chromosome painter and parental matches were helpful, maybe a little inaccurate at times at times, but, it had potential to improve. Now, it is behind a pay wall and you can no longer view it unless you pay the reoccurring fee of 30 something dollars. I paid a lot of money for this service and essentially am getting only 2 things out of it: matches, and an estimate. That is literally it. Is 100 dollars a reasonable price for two simple things? No. It’s just not justifiable what they’re doing and they will probably lose customers if they keep making them pay extra for the most basic features they can provide. I actually want to see Ancestry becoming the most trustworthy and helpful ancestry service of all. They already have a huge database, which is great. But as of lately, I’ve been disappointed. Why make us pay extra for things that other, less accurate testing companies already provide under the price you pay for the actual test itself? It just makes no sense.

I’ve tried and do use other family tree genealogy sites. Each has its own strength. Ancestry is more user friendly and produces a product that is easily read and visually representative of the family relationships. One feature I would like to see is an easier way to insert family or individual stories and reminiscences in the timeline of facts. The notes feature was not particularly helpful and are not visible when reading the story or timeline. All photos saved from other sources should automatically be saved in the media gallery. They can be deleted later, if not wanted, but is annoying when one finds it wasn’t saved after viewing it in a hint. I don’t like the new way of adding information from hints that require side by side comparison and checks when I know what I have is correct and the new information is different because of the date of the hint. It risks adding people a second time. Navigating back to a prior page after checking out a hint is not always easy, requiring going out of the tree going back in from an earlier point in the main tree. Otherwise, Ancestry is my choice of genealogy research.
