Old review: “Fidelity has always felt customer-oriented and professional. Unfortunately, this apps User Interface (UI) fails to live up to that standard. In an increasingly digital age where attention spans are minimal and trading is readily accessible, Fidelity needs something with a greater focus on an active retail investor. Recent events have proved without a shadow of a doubt that the retail investor plays a large role in the marketplace today. This is unlikely to change. Fidelity’s current UI caters to an individual with multiple, minimally active accounts (accounts that may even be managed by Fidelity itself). Though this isn’t inherently bad, an overabundance of information can negate a customer’s ease of use. I would love to see a cleaner, quicker UI with much better access to brokerage.” Update: Recent UI and options level improvements have caused me to revisit this old review. Fidelity’s mobile app has finally made a shift to a cleaner, quicker UI that is more in line with other broker’s offerings. Though I feel the charting could still be improved upon, this new app is far superior to what was, and proves that Fidelity is listening to user feedback.

I love this app. I’m disappointed by how frequently shares are unavailable to buy for certain stocks but in Think or Swim the purchases ARE allowed which is confusing and seems like a Fidelity is “cherry picking” which stocks on a specific day are allowed to be bought or sold. Wednesday for example I was able to buy FMTO until it went above 100% up for the day and buy orders were NO LONGER ALLOWED FOR THIS SECURITY. AFTER I HAD BEEN BUYING THEM THAT DAY ALREADY CAUSING ME TO LOSE ON GAINS AND NOT BE ABLE TO TRADE THE WAY I PERSONALLY TRADE. When attempting limit buys at dips in the way up it’s hard to understand why I was allowed to buy up to a certain point then Fidelity decides when I can no longer buy and can only sell. Sounds familiar like what happened to me with GME and AMC. Also after a buy it takes you to the fulfillment screen and I hate that I wish it kept you on your stock chart vs showing you what you already know you just did and forcing you to wait and hit the back button while you’re trading It’s a time waster I’ve seen it cause my buy order to be delayed enough to add Pennie’s sometimes dollars into a market order and for a limit order why do I need to see that transaction on another screen that’s not beneficial to traders because it’s a waste of time and time is everything in this game. Please respond with explanations.

I have been a Fidelity customer for 3 decades. I mostly use the iPad and iPhone apps for quick easy trades and status of holdings. They have an unwavering need to constantly change the screens very frequently. To me, the app wasn’t broken and didn’t need frequent tinkering. Now for me, it’s basically unusable. Whatever narrow demographic they are catering to, it’s not mine. Yes, I can still access the app on the internet and it is still the same, but it takes longer and is less convenient. If they are going to keep making changes, they need to offer the option to continue using the former screen configurations. Addendum: My point I this: you have several different constituencies of investors that frequently your iOS app for different reasons. You have taken steps to offer different screen configurations. My suggestion is that you take this further and allow each user to construct their profile to have the opening screen show exactly what they want. I want the opening screen to show all positions in all accounts in a list where I can sort any column containing the overview fields. I want to be able to go directly to a trading screen where I can quickly execute an option trade without having to go through several screens to input the trade parameters I already know I want. This used to be in the app but if it’s still there somewhere, I can’t find it. And PLEASE bring back the notes field! I use it to track where I got the recommendation for the trade. Thank you!
